"We're small, we're not in danger." $8 trillion is the total damage from cybercrime in the last year

Awareness of cyber security among citizens and companies in Croatia is increasing, but still insufficiently developed. Citizens often underestimate the risks and do not adhere to basic security measures such as regularly updating software and using strong passwords. Companies often do not invest enough in safety measures, and not even in employee education itself. Awareness of cyber security has become essential for all business systems, regardless of their size. Although large enterprise systems often get the most attention when it comes to cyber attacks, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are also at equal risk. According to recent statistics, there are 2,244 cyber attacks per day, which equates to over 800,000 attacks per year. This means that a cyber attack occurs almost every 39 seconds.

Why are medium and small companies the target?

Limited resources: The SME segment often lacks the resources to invest in advanced security systems, making them an easier target for attackers.

Lack of experts: Smaller companies tend not to have expert IT security teams, making it even more difficult to identify and respond to cyber threats.

Valuable data: Despite its size, the SME segment can hold valuable data, such as customer personal data and financial information, which is very attractive to cybercriminals.

Today, unfortunately, there is still a lot of awareness that investing in IT is not a necessity, very outdated traditional business models are used in large quantities, and in the security segment false security prevails, if the equipment is “under his feet” it is the safest, and the attitude is that we are small, so to whom we are interesting.
